Day 45 (13/10): Strawberry Sprinkles

Updated: Oct 24, 2021

Update: I just used these on lemon cupcakes! They look and taste amazing – and the flavour does not overpower the cupcake flavour, so they are the best kind! Try these when you have the time. :)

I have wanted to make sprinkles ever since I heard of the concept of homemade sprinkles. Sprinkles seemed like elusive candy that could only be made in the factory until I discovered this video – and realised how simple they are to make. The only "special" ingredient they require is corn syrup, of which, and I am not ashamed to admit, I ordered an entire bottle for this purpose.

I made yellow sprinkles because I love lemons. It took me barely ten minutes to prepare. All I had to do was combine some essence (I used strawberry to mess with people who assumed the yellow sprinkles were lemon-flavoured*), powdered sugar, water, and food colouring. Then, I just piped some lines and let it sit on the countertop overnight. You should refrigerate them, but I didn't have a lot of space in the fridge, so I didn't. The weather is changing and becoming cooler anyway, so I figured, why not?

Anyway, here's my POTD (picture of the day :o).

It took me a long time to cut them up and get them to sit perfectly in the bowl, so everyone better appreciate this beauty.

*It may not work. I tried to fool my mom three times. She thought I was crazy.
