Lemon + Matcha

Day 230 (16th April)



Matcha powder is the new avocado. Does that make sense?


Everyone's obsessed with it, talks about it and eats (drinks?) it 24/7. Naturally, I wanted to hop onto the train. It's not like I make trending recipes every week anyway, right?


I don't think I've ever had matcha before today. I've always shied away from the ugly green colour because it looks way too healthy-gorl-smoothie type. But I was surprised to find out that it tastes a little like more bitter vanilla? It's actually quite a pleasant taste. I'd go as far as to say I love it.


I made cupcakes with matcha powder using this recipe. I wouldn't recommend eating them without frosting because the frosting cancels out (rather, complements) the bitterness with its sweet taste. I used a leftover buttercream-lemon-curd-whipped-cream-cream-cheese-cookie-icing frosting that was in the fridge. It tasted like a soft lemon buttercream. You can probably achieve the same taste by adding a spoonful of lemon curd to your buttercream.
